Tiki Tane

Ten days before the Kaimanawa Annual Show I received a phone call to say that Tiki Tane was stuck in a gate and the vet was on her way! It took 40 minutes to release Tane from the gate. During this time he remained calm and totally trusting of those trying to help him.

May this be a reminder to always have bolt cutters on hand when owning horses!

The vet sedated him so she could get a close look at his injuries and decided to  bandage his leg. Tane freaked out about the bandage attached to him and had to be sedated again to have it taken off!

Join us at Equidays

What a great way to kick off the launch of our new name with three days at the inaugural Equidays, 18-20 November at Mystery Creek, Hamilton.

Equidays is an all-encompassing event that focuses on all aspects of the equine industry, business and recreation. There will be an exhibition of equipment, suppliers and elements of the equine world; demonstrations from each of the equine disciplines, competitions, clinics and training.

Look for our stand in the Breed Village. We will have Kaimanawas there and knowledgable people to talk with. Pop in and talk with us about our heritage breed and how you can be involved. We will also have a wide selection of new Kaimanawa Heritage Horses merchandise.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Kaimanawa Wild Horse Welfare Trust becomes Kaimanawa Heritage Horses

Times are changing. The issues being faced by our beautiful Kaimanawa horses are also changing.

With the wild population reduced to 300 and an increasing requirement to help neglected and abandoned Kaimanawa Horses homed from previous years’ musters, our organisation has had to adapt in order to help Kaimanawas in need.  Our focus now includes the rescue, training and re-homing of domestic Kaimanawas as well as homing wild Kaimanawas from the biennial muster.

One thing will never change – our dedication to the welfare of all Kaimanawa horses.    We remain a non-profit organisation run by a strong group of volunteers who are passionate about Kaimanawas.  Promoting the breed as a great riding pony and educating the general public about our historically unique Kaimanawas are also part of what we do.

If you would like to join us in celebrating these great horses, take a look at our new website packed with information and great pictures!
