Horses For Sale

Applying for a Horse

As part of what we do we work with DOC, SPCA, owners and the community to support the welfare of domestic Kaimanawa horses.

Through donations from the community and members we can often save more horses from the muster that we have homes for at the time. These horses, once handled, are then available for sale. Occasionally, we have rescue horses for sale through this page.

All the proceeds go to supporting our work.

If you are interested in applying for a horse you can fill out the form and get in touch.

  2. I was driving through the rangers and I saw a herd of Kaimanawa’s the stallion was stunning and stood on the side of the road helping his family cross he was so close to my car if he is caught in the next muster I want to buy him he looked amazing he had a full blaze and four white socks I have other horses and I have worked with Kai’s before how would I get my name down for a horse and can we chose who we want or pay more to get one?

    • The next muster is 2014, you can apply by completing an application for a “muster horse” on this site. No one gets to pick choose their own horses though.

  13. Hi I really want to help! I have two paddocks where I live where horses will be grazing soon in Waipapa Northland, I have access to land with plenty of grazing and some fencing needed. I would love to take on a horse but my experience has been riding with pony clubs and trained horses since I was young. I would love to train a horse and befriend that would be a different experience from the way I witnessed people treating horses when I was younger. Maybe the reality of taking on a horse would be only be possible with help from others who have already have experience. IF there is anyway people can work on this issue to bring their resources and knowledge together, please let me know as I feel not doing anything is not the answer. I can’t cover the cost and the responsibility myself, but I can support and work with someone else. Who else is in this situation?

    • Hi Ramona,
I am not sure if there are people in your area who could pool their resources and take a horse, you would need good strong stock yards with a cattle race and a secure paddock coming off them and experence with horses.
Perhaps you could contact people in your area and see if its possible.
Our Muster Co Ordinater Simone is taking horses to handle for people she may like an offer of some help.
Could you get in touch with me info@kaimanawaheritagehorses.org
