Welcome! Kaimanawas really are special horses and we’re so happy you’re going to be part of helping them find their new homes.

The next muster is happening around April-May 2021 and over 200 horses will need homes.

As the muster draws closer, we will send out more details.

In the meantime, here is what you need to know about homing a wild Kaimanawa horse.

If you would like to apply for a Kaimanawa from the 2021 muster, you MUST fill in an application form.

Not everyone is comfortable taking a wild horse, but there are plenty of people who would love to be a forever friend to one of these amazing creatures once they have gotten used to humans.

We have a list of approved handlers that can do some of the initial work for you.
Click here to download a list of approved handlers.
Please get in touch with them quickly as many can only take a few horses each year.

If you are not quite ready for a wild Kaimanawa, here are some other ways you can get involved:

Adopt or sponsor one of our rescue horses

Sponsor a muster horse and be part of their journey to friendship

If you have any questions about the process of applying for a Kaimanawa of your own, please  email muster[at]kaimanawaheritagehorses.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
