Description

KHH has again arranged with the NZ Army to take groups into the Kaimanawa Ranges to see these fabulous horses in the Wild.

See foals, mares, yearlings, and stallions in their family bands. See where the annual muster takes place. See and photograph the spectacular scenery and learn more about how and where these horses run.

The region is normally closed to the public and we are privileged to be able to offer you this experience.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS apply which you must agree to prior to ticket purchase. A copy of these is located at the bottom of this page and acceptance of these terms is required during the checkout process. A copy of our refund policy is also displayed.

Meet by 8:45 am on the day of your ticket at the car park at the Waiouru Sports Complex on Hassett Drive, Waiouru. Our team will be visible once you turn off at the National Army Museum to help with directions to the nearby car park and tour buses. A map will be provided as part of your purchase confirmation email.

YOU WILL BE SENT A CONFIRMATION EMAIL for checking in on the day. PLEASE PRINT IT OR SAVE IT TO YOUR PHONE.

For more information please email ranges@kaimanawaheritagehorses.org

On the tour:

  • A Talk and visual show about safety on the base and army activities.
  • A stopover at a scenic spot with an address by a DoC representative giving details on the land and its history.
  • BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH to enjoy at the yards where the horses are mustered, along with a short address on the muster process. N.B. you need to provide your own food and drink.
  • Merchandise will be available for sale during the lunch break (CASH only) and on return to the car park (EFTPOS available).
  • The bus will return to the car park late afternoon.

To get the most from the trip we recommend:

  • Bring warm clothes and wet-weather gear, sunhat, sunglasses and sturdy footwear. It can also be quite windy.
  • A pair of binoculars can be a good alternative to a camera – there are many professional photographers that share their photos.
  • There is no cellphone reception in the ranges.

N.B. YOU NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINKS.

For safety reasons we need to collect the names and contact numbers of all individual ticket holders. The ticket purchaser will remain our main contact. It will remain the responsibility of the ticket purchaser to ensure we are provided accurate details of each ticket holder prior to the event. A confirmation email will be sent once a purchase is complete which will need to be printed or saved to your phone. The event will remain subject to the conditions and mandates in place at the time. ( COVID-19 )

Bus Trip Cancellation Policy

  • 90% refund where the cancellation is 14 days or more from the date of the tour. This enables us to recoup bank fees and administration costs.
  • 50% refund where the cancellation is less than 14 days from the date of the tour. This will increase to 90% if we are able to resell the ticket.
  • No refund will be given for failure to show up for the tour.

If for any unforeseen reason we need to cancel any or all of our bus tours then a refund of 90% of the purchase price will be returned to the original purchaser. This enables us to recoup bank fees, pre-tour purchases, and administration costs.
